Last October, I went to Houston (before the US election) and took some fun classes. One was from Phyllis Cullen, who had a unique way of collaging that I thought I would try out and another class by Karen Stone using raw-edge curves.
I owned books by both of them and I thought I'd like to meet them and try out the techniques with them.

The palila (Loxioides bailleui) is a critically endangered finch-billed species of Hawaiian honeycreeper. It has a golden-yellow head and breast.
We visit Maui a lot and we see the Chickens and the Hibiscus everywhere. They're usually not his colourful but I thought I'd try it Phyllis's way. Maui's state flower is the yellow hibicus, so I might try that one day.

The last one was started in Karen Stone's class, I always liked her curved piecing. i took that class and then tried her raw-edge class - not my thing, I guess.
